The Angry Little Puffin by Timothy Young is an adorable children’s book. It’s the story of a little puffin who is really tired of being called a penguin. He cannot take it anymore and he just wants to scream “I AM NOT A PENGUIN!” . It does not help that he lives in the penguin exhibit at the zoo. He just wants one person to notice that he is different from a penguin and appreciate him for what he really is. Will he get his wish? I like the fact that the issue of being accepted as yourself is addressed.
Throughout the story, the puffin explains the differences between a puffin and a penguin. Such things as what they eat, where they live and the biggest and best difference is that a puffin can fly. I like the way these facts were presented in a fun way that a child would understand and enjoy.
The writing style was age appropriate and the words used are ones that a child will understand. The illustrations are bright and vibrant and a cute addition to the book.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a cute educational book to children. I think this book would be a great addition to a school or family library.
