Review of Malice In Christmas River

Malice In Christmas River by Meg Muldoon is the fourth book in the Christmas River Cozy series and it is a really good book (just like the others in the series).

Cinnamon Peters is looking forward to her honeymoon in Hawaii with her husband Daniel.  Both have been working extraordinarily long hours, as the owner of the pie shop and the sheriff and they know that soon they will be able to get away for peace and relaxation and alone time.  They just have to get through an unusual heat wave and the Christmas River Rodeo.  Nothing is going to get in the way of their trip, or will it?

The characters are very well developed and are realistic.  They feel like friends that I want to hang out with and I care about what happens to them.  The author has a way of writing with emotion and heartfelt feelings and this really shone through in this book.  Having read the first three books in the series, I can see their growth and I enjoyed finding out what has been happening in their lives.  There are some good things on the horizon for the characters and I cannot wait to see what happens in future books.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read.  The author is very descriptive and at times I felt like I could smell the pies cooking and feeling the heat from an unusually hot September.

One of the things that I especially enjoyed about this book is that there is no murder and no body to be discovered by the protagonist.  That is very unusual in a cozy book, most all of them have murders to be solved to clear someone’s name.  There is a mystery in this book, it just is not a murder.  There are many suspects to consider in solving the mystery and I was surprised by the culprit.  The mystery is well plotted and the conclusion was realistic.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery.  The Christmas River Cozy series is one of my favorite series to read, I have loved every one of them.  Treat yourself to this book and this series, you will not be disappointed.
