Review of A Promise To Protect

Acting Sheriff Ben Logan hasn’t heard from Leigh Somerall in a very long time, but it doesn’t mean he can get her–or their whirlwind romance of ten years ago–out of his head. When she calls out of the blue, it is with a strange request to protect her brother, Tony. When Tony dies just days later, Ben is charged with a different task–protecting Leigh and her nine-year-old son, TJ, from the killers. But how can Ben keep an eye on Leigh if she’s doing everything in her power to avoid him? And could the secret that Leigh is keeping change Ben’s life forever?

20724659  Suspense, intrigue, and a touch of romance make A Promise to Protect perfect for readers who like their stories with a hearty dose of mystery. (Goodreads)

Leigh Somerall has been away from her hometown for many years.  She has only returned now to try and protect her brother.  But when her brother dies, Leigh doe not know what to do.

Ben Logan is the acting sheriff of Logan Point and he wants to keep all the citizens safe.  When his friend and the brother of his old girlfriend dies, he knows that he must keep Leigh safe at any cost.  He must also keep Leigh’s young son safe as well.  Many strange things begin to happen and that task becomes harder than he ever imagined.  And when he finds that his feelings for Leigh have never died, the task becomes even more difficult.  He just knows that he lost her once but he refuses to lose her again.

The characters are well developed and well rounded.  You cannot help but cheer for Leigh and Ben and want to see them have their happily ever after.  But the road to that is filled with bumps and obstacles and it will not be an easy journey.  Besides the baggage they come with from their pasts they have many mishaps in the present to get past.

The mystery is well developed and carried on throughout the entire book.  There are many twists and turns along the way and the clues take them down many different paths.  At times I was afraid to turn the page for fear of what was about to happen.

This book had a little bit of everything:mystery, suspense, romance, and forgiveness.  All of these elements were intertwined to make a great read.  I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted romantic suspense.  This is the second book in the series but the first one that I have read.  I had no problem knowing what was going on. I plan on reading book one as soon as I can.

I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.  I would like to thank NetGalley and Revell  for the opportunity to read and review this book.
