Zoe Chambers is back in this third book in the Zoe Chambers Mystery series and it is a great read. I would give this book more than five stars if I could.
Zoe is a paramedic who has a lot going on in her life. Besides her job, she works at a riding stable giving riding lessons and helping to run the stables and the farm where she lives. She is also trying to figure out her relationship with Pete Adams, the chief of police for Vance Township. They have been friends for a long time and Zoe has been in love with him almost since day one. But she is afraid to take the friendship to the next level for fear that if it does not work out she will lose her best friend.
Zoe is at a fire when she stops a man from running into a burning house to save his wife. The man she saves has a ten year old daughter, Maddie, and Zoe feels a deep connection with her. Zoe knows how it feels to lose a parent when you are young. Zoe offers to let the father and daughter move onto the farm where she lives until they can get their lives back together. Zoe figures that horse therapy will help Maddie deal with her feelings about losing her mom and Maddie’s father can help with repairs around the farm, which are desperately needed. But when it is determined that the fire was deliberately set and the death is a murder, Zoe and Pete are not sure that the husband is completely innocent in his wife’s death. Did Zoe just invite a murdered to move onto the farm with her?
The characters are well developed, well rounded and three dimensional. I just love reading about Zoe and all that is going on in her life. She is strong willed and has a tough guy attitude but she also has a softer, more vulnerable side. Pete is also a very likable character who is honest and a take-charge kind of guy. But he is clueless when it comes to his relationship with Zoe. Their relationships is so on and off that at times it felt like a flashing road sign. Will things work out for them or will they ruin a great friendship and romance?
The mystery is carried on throughout the entire book and there are many suspects to consider. I thought I had it figured out a few times but I was wrong. I love when that happens. There are many twists and turns and the suspense just keeps building until all is revealed at the end. The author is very talented when it comes to creating characters and tension and writing a book that you just want to keep reading. I was sad when it was over and I sure hope there is a book four in the series. .
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted mystery suspense book with well developed characters. I have read book two in the series and I have book one to read. Treat yourself and get all three books in the series, you will not be disappointed.
I received a free book from NetGalley in exchange for a honest review. And I honestly loved this book. I would like to thank NetGalley and Henery Press for the opportunity to read and review this book.
