Review of The Grudge

Alyson and the gang head to a ski resort in the Colorado Rockies the week after Christmas. Before they even make it to the house they will be staying at for the week, they stumble across a body in the snow. When they realize that the body is one incident in a series of unusual occurrences, they decide to throw a little sleuthing in with their holiday plans. (Goodreads)

As usual, Kathi Daley has written a great cozy mystery.  This book is a great read for young adults and older adults who enjoy a well written cozy read.

The characters are well rounded and well developed.  They are an intelligent group of teens who enjoy a good mystery (although I do not think they enjoy all the dead bodies that they have had to deal with).  They think things through and follow logical steps in solving the mysteries, better than some adults would do.  At times, their abilities seemed a lit beyond the scope of what a teen would be able to do, but that was alright with me.  Most relationships continue to grow, while others hit a bit of a road block.

The author is extremely talented in her descriptive writing and while I was reading, I could feel the blizzard raging outside and the warmth of the fireplace.  I do not think this is an easy thing to accomplish, but she does it perfectly.  I like the fact that this book took place at the ski resort for a change of pace.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery.  I think it is great that this is a book that you could read and then give it to your teenage grandchild to read.   This whole series is a great read (I do think this is my favorite of the books in this series) as are all of her books.  Treat yourself, or someone else, to this book.
