Lani enjoys spending time with her senior friends.  She likes their company and feels like she can learn a lot about life from the experiences they share.  So it is no surprise that she is with them at a sunrise service to welcome in the summer solstice.  What is a surprise is her finding a dead body of one of the seniors that are present.  Since she is the one to find the victim, she feels compelled to help find the killer.

The characters are well developed and well rounded.  Lani is spunky and does not like being told she cannot do something.  But this time around, I feel like she has grown up some and is willing to work with her brother, who is law enforcement, instead of competing with him.  I enjoyed reading about this growth.  She still has her beach friends and her condo “family” to help with the investigation, as well as many of her senior friends.  The author is so talented in character development and I always feel like I want the characters I am reading about to be actual friends.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read.  The mystery is carried on throughout the entire book and was not easily solved.  There are enough twists and turns to keep the reader guessing and enough suspects to make identifying the culprit difficult. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and much of the time I felt like I was right there in the middle of all the action.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery.  I would suggest starting with the first book in the series, Murder At Dolphin Bay, to see where all the fun began.

  1. Well, pooh! I thought I had both of these in my TBR folder, but when I went searching for them I found that I don’t have either one . . . I know I had meant to read them. Mary, you are tempting me TOO MUCH. I don’t have enough time to read everything I want to read.
