Review of The Great Catsby

The Great Catsby

Whales And Tails Mystery Series, Book #8

Kathi Daley

5 Stars

Cait’s friend Alex who we met in The Cat of Christmas Past returns to Madrona Island a vastly changed man. It seems that wealth has made an impact on his personality and not in a good way. During one of the legendary parties Alex has become famous for throwing one of the guests dies and it looks as if Alex may have blood on his hands. Cait and Cody set out to prove Alex’s innocence with the help of Ebenezer, the cat we met in The Cat of Christmas Past. (Goodreads)

Cait has her hands full with her mother’s upcoming wedding to a man that no one really knows.  Her family is not happy that their mother is marrying someone that she just met on a cruise.  They want to talk her out of it but she is not listening.  She is also very busy with Coffee Cat Books, the bookstore/ coffee bar/ cat lounge that she operates with her friend Tara.  They have been extremely busy and she does not have much free time.  But when her friend, Alex, is accused of murder, she knows she will have to try to find the murderer.

The characters are well rounded and well developed.  It was nice getting to visit with all of them again and learn what has been happening in their lives.  I feel like I am visiting old friends whenever I read a book by this author.  I enjoy the mystical magical cats that always make an appearance in this series to help Cait to solve the mystery.  I feel like it adds an extra layer to these books.

The author is very talented in creating a setting that is warm and welcoming.  It is always a joy visiting the places that this author creates.   I feel like I am right there soaking up the sunshine and watching the action taking place all around me. The mystery is well plotted and there are many suspects to consider.  I did figure this mystery out but only a few pages before it was revealed at the end.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery.  This book and this series (and all of this author’s series) are what make reading cozy mysteries so enjoyable.
