Unraveling family secrets can be murder in Suede to Rest...

THE FIRST BOOK IN THE ALL-NEW “MATERIAL WITNESS” MYSTERY SERIES

With her career as a dress designer in shreds, Polyester Monroe is looking forward to a fresh start. But as it all unfolds, the pattern to a new beginning looks a lot like murder.

When Poly Monroe was little, she loved playing in her family’s textile store. But after a fatal family tragedy, Land of A Thousand Fabrics was boarded up and Poly never expected to see the inside again. Now, as inheritor of the long-shuttered shop, she’s ready to restore the family business. However her two new kittens, Pins and Needles, aren’t the ones causing a snag in her plans…

Not everyone wants Poly back in San Ladrón, especially a powerful local developer pressuring her to sell—and leave town fast. But even when the threats turn deadly, she’s not ready to bolt. Because Poly is beginning to suspect that the murder behind the shop is tied to a mystery in her family’s unsettled past that she’s determined to solve…before her own life is left hanging by a thread.

Review:

The characters were well crafted and well rounded.  I thought Poly was a strong willed and a tough woman.  She also has a strong love of family and family traditions.  Those are great traits for everyone to have.  I really enjoyed the fact that Poly did not take unnecessary chances, placing herself in danger.  She did ask some questions but she shared what she learned with law enforcement.  I thought the secondary characters added a lot to the book.

There are actually a few mysteries to solve in this book.  First, there is the mystery of who killed Poly’s aunt many years ago.  Then when there is a dead body found, the murderer has to be found and stopped.  And after there are many instances of foul play aimed at Poly, there is another mystery to figure out who is behind these.  I like the fact there are so many things to figure out and my sleuthing skills were put to the test.  I think they were all woven together to create a suspenseful book.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read.  The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and through much of the book, I felt like I was right there, seeing all the textiles and hearing Pins and Needles meowing.  I really enjoy when something like that happens.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery.  This is the first book in the series, and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.
