Malicious Mocha Murder

A Sophia Rivera Paranormal Mystery, Book #1

33127791Synopsis:

Sophia Rivera is used to playing it safe and living simple in the chaotic city of West Emily. Working as a barista by day, and playing online fantasy games by night, Sophia’s life is pretty normal.

That is if you discount her ability to see ghosts.

______________________________________________________________________________

Lucky for me, the only apparitions that hang around these days are of my casino-hopping, grandmother and Rufus, the one-eyed ferret.

Yeah, never a dull moment at my place.

Unexpectedly, things take a wild turn when the spirit of a woman shows up–mind you, in the creepiest way possible– claiming to have been murdered and needs me to guide her to Tranquility. Essentially, where ghosts go to regain peace.

Sounds simple?

Well, it’s not!

Throw in a fifty year old historic catastrophe that somehow connects with spirit lady, Dark Entities, sexy twins who light parts of me on fire, and a raging war between Rufus and my cat, Mr. Murphy—-obviously, it’s going to be one hell of a week.

Take it from me, stuffing your face with chocolate danishes and fudge brownies, do NOT make life threatening problems go away.

No matter how good they taste…

Review:

Sophia is a gaming nerd who likes to be by herself.  She is the happiest when she is playing her online game and spending time with her cat.  But even when she is not with another human being, she is not alone.  Sophia sees and smells ghosts.  She is frequently visited by her grandma and her grandma’s ferret.  When she is visited by another ghost, this one wanting Sophia’s help in finding her killer, Sophia cannot say no.  But how does one go about finding the killer of a ghost.  Sophia has no idea, but she better figure it out quickly.

The characters are well rounded and well developed.  I enjoyed getting to know Sophia and her grandma, and I am looking forward to spending more time with them.  I also enjoyed the antics of Mr. Murphy, Sophia’s cat, and Rufus, the ghostly ferret.  They made me laugh out loud.  And there are couple of love interests for Sophia, and it will be interesting to see who she picks.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and through much of the book I felt like I was right there, watching all the action taking place.  I felt like I was right there when Sophia had her first encounter with the new ghost, and it was intense.  She is also very talented in building suspense with just the written word.  There were enough twists and turns to make the mystery very difficult to solve.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy.  And if you like paranormal in your cozy, then you have to read this book.  I am definitely looking forward to reading more books in this series.
