Here is a list of some of the new releases for the week of March 5th, 2017. Since there were so many this week, I divided it up among three days. This is day three of my list. Hope you find some selections for your weekly reading. Enjoy and happy reading.
This is the first novel in a lighthearted cozy mystery series set in Georgian era Edinburgh.
Ishbel Campbell is used to being alone. She attends university lectures at a time when women are told to think solely of marriage and family. Ewan MacPherson is used to a simple life, focused on balls and other entertainments. When they meet, he feels an instant attraction for her and she finds in him someone who seems to understand her as no one else ever has.
Ishbel’s fearsome cousin, Harriette, orders the pair to find the missing emerald necklace belonging to her friend, Lady Tinbough. Neither of them has any idea where to start, managing to insult half of Edinburgh’s upper classes and make their household staff think they are insane.
The case soon grows more sinister when they discover that a young woman, who might have been the thief, is missing. As the danger rises and jealousies and insecurities threaten their partnership, will they be able to solve the mystery in time or will the criminal’s deadly attentions turn on them? (Amazon)
In GURU BONES, beloved author Carolyn Haines returns to Zinnia, Mississippi, in a compelling bridge story.
Southern-belle-turned-PI Sarah Booth Delaney is unenthusiastic at best when her friends rope her into attending a health food and lifestyle seminar. Priya Karsan, an internationally known activist, is in Zinnia for a lecture. But the lecture takes a turn for the deadly when there’s a body discovered in the venue’s kitchen. As Sarah Booth and her partner at the Delaney Detective Agency, Tinkie Richmond, tackle the case, Sarah Booth quickly realizes there’s a lot more to Priya and her activism than meets the eye. Ever since the cops revoked his private investigator’s license, Charlie Bradshaw has been adjusting to life as a regular senior citizen. But reading, sitting around the house, and making amateur home repairs is a far cry from his past life as Saratoga Springs’ most successful everyman detective.
So when Charlie discovers the sprawled corpse of Saratoga Springs’ biggest nuisance on his sidewalk, the ex-P.I. is torn. Should he risk asking questions of his own, knowing he could easily be prosecuted for doing P.I. work without a license? Or should he avoid the trouble and spend his twilight years in peace? Well, the case was practically delivered to his doorstep…
Saratoga Payback, the latest installment in Stephen Dobyns’s critically praised Charlie Bradshaw Mysteries, follows Charlie as he toes the line between concerned private citizen and practiced private eye. As he begins to look into the murder of the town pest, Charlie also finds himself entangled in problem that is purely Saratogian–a mission to rescue an old acquaintance’s kidnapped horse. Wry, entertaining, and adroitly written, Saratoga Payback is an immensely satisfying addition to Dobyns’s popular mystery series.” (Goodreads)

A relaxing trail ride turns tragic when Paramedic and Deputy Coroner Zoe Chambers discovers the body of a popular county commissioner in her Pennsylvania woods. The task takes Zoe out of her comfort zone in a frantic trip to the desolate canyons and bluffs of New Mexico where she joins forces with the missing boy’s sister and a mysterious young Navajo.
Back at home, Vance Township’s Chief of Police Pete Adams must deal not only with the commissioner’s homicide, but with an influx of meth and a subsequent rash of drug overdoses in his rural community.
