Review of Finding Courage

Finding Courage
Rescue Alaska Mystery, Book #3
Kathi Daley
5+ Stars

His pulse quickened as they approached. He’d waited so long. Too long. He closed his eyes and reveled in the memory, which did not come as a gentle wave, but as a surge of agony from the depths of his personal hell. He’d craved the searing pain, the deeply felt anguish. It was only during these moments, when he was sure that he would drown in a river of grief, that he felt truly alive.

Harmony’s life is thrown into turmoil after she shares a memory with the madman responsible for the death of a popular member of the Rescue Alaska Search and Rescue Team. She knows she must overcome her fear and grief in order to track down the man, who has threatened the safety of the entire community.

Rescue Alaska is the eighth series by USA Today Bestselling Author Kathi Daley. It is a fast moving mystery series with a paranormal twist which takes place in a small town in northern Alaska where visitors come to hike and ski. Harmony Carson is a lifelong resident who volunteers as a member of the local search and rescue team. Harmony has a unique gift which she often considers a curse. She is able to ‘see’ the individuals she is meant to help rescue, and more often than not she can feel their fear and their pain as well. When she isn’t aiding in a rescue, Harmony works at Neverland – the bar owned by her brother in law Jake, and volunteers at the local animal shelter. Harmony lives in a rustic cabin with six dogs, four cats, six kittens, eight rabbits, and a blind mule named Homer. (Amazon)

This is soon becoming my favorite series. It has two of my favorite things: search and rescue and paranormal. Add in engaging characters, a top notch mystery and a flock of lovable animals and it is a real winner.

Harmony is a kind hearted person who loves helping people and animals. She has a whole house and yard full of animals that she has rescued. And she does her best to rescue missing people, as part of the search and rescue team. She has a special talent (or curse) where she can connect with the person she is trying to save. While connecting with them she experiences their pain and their fear. She has learned to live with this ability, but at times if is very difficult. And when she connects with a killer, she is terrified but determined to find the murderer.

The characters are well developed and well rounded. The people from the rescue team are like family to Harmony and they are all very willing to help each other and take care each other. Each one adds something special to this book. And the animals are so cute and fun to read about.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and in creating suspense with the written word. There were many scenes in this book that were tension filled. The mystery was well written and carried on well throughout the entire book. There were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider. Even after the culprit was identified, the reason behind the killer’s actions needed to be found out.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I am already looking forward to the next book so I hope the author writes fast.

Pink Diamonds & Murder: Val Masters Wedding Planner Cozy Mysteries Series Book 3 by [Harris, Harper]A murder threat. A scared DJ. And the dreaded chicken dance.

Weddings are usually a billion-dollar business in Buckingham Downs, a charming coastal village in California. But not everyone who lives there is rich. Valerie Masters is planning a small wedding this time.

The bride and groom are on a budget and Morris, otherwise known as DJ Meow Meow, is the best man. Both of the bridesmaids are causing problems. One, along with her MMA fighter boyfriend, is bringing up the past for Morris. The other is a “friend” of the handsome Detective Mathews— with whom Val thought she had started a romance.

When someone stabs a knife through a rubber chicken and DJ Meow Meow’s door, Morris runs straight to Val for help. She, Buttons the Yorkie, and her wedding planning team take the case, even though it’s one that Detective Mathews wants her to forget. But, Val’s eyes are clouded by jealousy and she won’t listen to the detective. She’s solved two murders already, so an attempted murder should be cake. Right?

Can Val figure out who is threatening Morris’ life before he has to walk down the aisle? Can she keep a murderer at bay and get the wedding to go off without a hitch? If there’s any hope, Morris will have to confront his past and finally explain why he will never play the chicken dance. And Val just might have to take a look at why she’s so darn envious of Detective Mathew’s personal life.

“Riveting . . . one of the series’ more powerful recent entries.”—Publishers Weekly

When a ransom exchange turns deadly in this thrilling mystery from New York Times bestselling author Anne Perry, Commander William Monk faces an unthinkable possibility: betrayal by his own men.

Jacob’s Island is a broken-down waterside slum, a place of perpetual gloom where Monk is just as likely to lose a man to the mud and tides as to the criminals who hide in the shadows. Kidnappers have chosen this warren of tunnels and alleys as the site of a ransom exchange for Kate Exeter, the wife of wealthy real estate developer Harry Exeter. Harry asks the Thames River Police to secretly accompany him to the spot and ensure that no harm comes to him or his captive wife. But on arrival, Monk and five of his best men are attacked from all sides, and Monk is left wondering who could have given away their plans.

As Monk follows leads from Kate’s worried cousin and a crafty clerk at the bank where Exeter gathered the ransom money, it seems undeniable that one of his own men has betrayed him. Delving into their pasts, he realizes how little he knows about the people he works with every day, including his right-hand man John Hooper, the one colleague Monk has always been certain he can count on—but who is also hiding a dreadful secret. As the case runs into a series of deadly obstructions, Monk must choose between his own safety and the chance to solve the mystery—and to figure out where his men’s loyalty really lies. (Amazon)
