What critics are saying:

“Catherine Bruns has whipped up another delicious treat with this delightful cozy. If you like your mysteries to taste sweet this one is a good choice.”
–Night Owl Reviews, Top Pick!

“I want to visit more with all of the quirky characters just to see what crazy and outrageous things they will do next!”
–Fresh Fiction (Goodreads)

The characters are well rounded and well developed. I really like Sally. She is a warm hearted caring woman who loves her family very much. She has her flaws. She can get jealous and she has a bit of a temper if she is provoked, but don’t we all. This just made her seem more realistic to me. She has such a heartwarming relationship with her grandma and her sister. Sally and Josie are the best of friends and they get into more than their share of trouble together. And her husband Mike is a great guy and they have a solid relationship. I love getting to spend time with Sally and the gang.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing. I especially like the time they spent in Las Vegas, I knew many of the places mentioned in the book. The writing style flows smoothly and defined the characters clearly through their actions and words. The mystery was carried on well throughout the book. I figured out who the killer was before Sally but that was okay, because I did not know the why. I really enjoyed the fact that Sally did not stumble upon a dead body. Since that happens in so many of the cozies that I read, I found it to be a refreshing change.

I would highly recommend this book (and series) to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. If you like wonderful characters, loving relationships and an engaging setting, then you need to read this book.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and provided an honest review.

Possesed (Starry Sky Book 3) by [Hanson, Marian]The killer stood in hiding behind some trees on the vast campus area. The figure’s hood was drawn to the face and down past the forehead, and a big, woolen scarf nearly hid the rest of the features. It was an excellent disguise, thanks to the chilly weather.

As it gets obvious that a string of murders is down to one and the same perpetrator, the Homicide department in City asks the FBI for help.
But the downside to the profile the FBI’s psychologist has painted is its broadness: It fits way too many suspects.

Emma is staying in the City for a while as she’s teaching astrology at an evening seminar.
She and her cat Stella are staying in a house in the outskirts of the City along with her police-boyfriend and his colleague.

On the seminar, Emma senses a peculiar unease in connection to one of her students. His horoscope seems to fit all the characteristics of a serial killer
When one of Emma’s students is killed, and the M.O. is the same as the serial killer’s, she finds herself in an ethical conflict: Can she tell the police about her suspicions, when they are mainly built on aversion and astrology?
Then another suspect enters the scene, raising the question: Is it possible to become a murderer, because the devil has possessed you?

“Possessed” is the third volume in the series “Starry Sky.”
The astrologer Emma Johnson is a recurring character in the series.
Each volume in the series is a complete story in itself.  (Amazon)

Grave Demands (A Maddie Graves Mystery Book 14) by [Hart, Lily Harper]Maddie Graves and Nick Winters are looking forward … to marriage and forever. Before that happens, they have to look to the past and overcome another obstacle.
Todd Winthrop, the man who tried killing Maddie when she first returned to town, is up for trial. Maddie and Nick have been called to testify, but before that happens, they have to solve an eerily similar murder.
Shelby Capshaw was blonde, young, and her body was discovered close to Nick and Maddie’s house. She’s killed in the exact manner Todd’s previous victim died, which could be enough to cause reasonable doubt.
Nick is determined to make sure Todd gets what’s coming to him, and that includes a life behind bars. Before that happens, Shelby’s murder needs to be solved and another killer must be removed from the street.
The working theory is that the killer has ties to Todd and is trying to influence the outcome of his trial. Nick doesn’t have enough leads to point him in the right direction, though. He’s going to need a little help from his psychic girlfriend.
Nick and Maddie are a determined team. That doesn’t mean death won’t come stalking and tear them apart.
They’re getting close to the finish line. They believe they simply need luck, love, and strength to win the race. Unfortunately for them, even that might not be enough.  (Amazon)
