New York Times bestseller M. C. Beaton’s cranky, crafty Agatha Raisin—now the star of a hit T.V. show—is back on the case again in The Dead Ringer.
The idyllic Cotswolds village of Thirk Magna is best known for the medieval church of St. Ethelred and its bells, which are the pride and glory of the whole community.
As the bell-ringers get ready for the visit of the dashing Bishop Peter Salver-Hinkley, the whole village is thrown into a frenzy. Meanwhile, Agatha convinces one of the bell-ringers, the charming lawyer Julian Brody, to hire her to investigate the mystery of the Bishop’s ex-fiancée: a local heiress, Jennifer Toynby, who went missing years ago and whose body was never found…
Meanwhile, the bodies in the village just keep on piling up: the corpse of Larry Jensen, a local policeman, is discovered in the crypt. Millicent Dupin, one of a pair of bell-ringing identical twins, is murdered near the church. And Terry Fletcher, a journalist and (briefly) Agatha’s lover, is found dead in her sitting room! Agatha widens her investigation and very soon her main suspect is the handsome Bishop himself. But could he really be behind this series of violent killings, or is it someone who wants to bring him—and his reputation—down? (Amazon)

*A laugh out loud cozy mystery by New York Times Bestseller Addison Moore*
My name is Lottie Lemon, and I see dead pets. Okay, so I see dead people on occasion, too, but it’s mostly sweet, fuzzy, long-departed cuties that I see clinging by their previous owner’s side. Trust me when I say this is not a good sign. So, when I spot an adorable, fuzzy, little squirrel skipping around at the grand opening for my new bakery, I about lose it, until I realize it’s a perky little poltergeist only visible to yours truly. But there are so many people at the grand opening it’s hard to discern who exactly might be in danger—that is, until I follow the little creature right out the back and straight into another homicide. It’s horrible to see your friend lying there vacant of life. Honey Hollow will never be the same.
Lottie Lemon has a brand new bakery to tend to, a budding romance with perhaps one too many suitors, and she has the supernatural ability to see dead pets—which are always harbingers for ominous things to come. Throw in the occasional ghost of the human variety, a string of murders, and her insatiable thirst for justice, and you’ll have more chaos than you know what to do with.
Living in the small town of Honey Hollow can be murder.

Someone must have missed that memo, though. Raven finds herself smack dab in the middle of another murder investigation. Every piece of evidence points to the town treasurer as being the guilty party, but she isn’t so sure the case is that cut and dried.

Life has always piled generous helpings on Edge Cameron’s plate. An attractive autumn rose with good friends and an interesting man in her life, she’s a semi-retired scriptwriter, a wealthy widow (twice), with a TV series pilot going into production which could pile that plate even higher.
Things were looking great until the production house was hit by an unscrupulous embezzler, and every penny invested in the production was stolen. The four friends do have some unusually close links to the whole disaster, but they’re getting nowhere in their search for information. Edge, hard-hit financially, is in despair and not coping at all. Even the official investigation seems to have hit a brick wall, until an acquaintance travelling through France in a campervan spots the man the police would like to speak to and the hunt is back on.
The tenth and last book in the Grasshopper Lawns series, moving swiftly from Scotland to France and beyond is, like the others, holiday reading. The experienced armchair detective will pick every necessary clue out of the gentle flow of narrative and will at all times know exactly as much as the four friends do – the challenge is always to reach the solution first.
There is a strong backstory to the series but all the books can be read alone. There’s some loss of impact when they are read out of order and a red herring in one book has been spotted on the loose in a later book, but there will always be enough red herrings to go around.
Readers have occasionally in the past thought they spotted me doing a kind of Hitchcock appearance as a minor character. I never have before, but in this last book of the series there is a guest character who will seem familiar to anyone who was following my Elegsabiff.com blog in the latter part of 2017. We do have some unique similarities: but Hitchcock never appeared as himself, he was always playing a role. Ditto. (Amazon)
