From NY Times Bestselling Author, Angie Fox, a hauntingly fun holiday addition to the USA TODAY bestselling Southern Ghost Hunter series
She needs a Christmas miracle…
Verity Long is ready to deck the halls, jingle some bells, and maybe, just maybe have a merry Christmas with her boyfriend’s stuffy family. Truly, if she doesn’t extend the proverbial olive branch to the overbearing Wydells, she’s afraid she’ll hit them over the head with it.
But when her boyfriend’s mother pulls a shocking stunt, Verity finds herself with a big decision to make. And if that’s not enough, there’s an unexpected guest at her door. It’s the ghost of the woman who helped rescue Verity’s pet skunk three years ago that very night. And now she’s there to change Verity’s life as well.
*A “between the books” holiday story you don’t want to miss!

Rating: Clean and Wholesome
Paranormal Cozy Mystery Romance

Review:

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning. There was a lot of action contained within the pages and that was great.

The characters are well rounded and well developed. I like getting to spend time with Verity and Ellis, they make a great couple. Ellis’s mom, Virginia, is a real pain and will always be a real pain. But maybe Verity will be able to live with that after learning a magical lesson. Frankie is as tough as ever, but we see he has a soft spot in his heart. Lucy, Verity’s pet skunk, is one of my favorite pets in the cozy world.

I really like the premise of this book and how it paralleled A Christmas Carol, I thought that was so clever. There were lessons to be learned, but in a fun way.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. If you are looking for a book to get you in the Christmas spirit (pun intended), check this book out.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and provided my honest review.

Bryant & May: The Lonely Hour: A Peculiar Crimes Unit Mystery by [Fowler, Christopher]“The most delightfully, wickedly entertaining duo in crime fiction.”—The Plain Dealer

The brilliant Arthur Bryant and John May take the late, late shift in a cat-and-mouse hunt with a killer who preys on his victims at the same time every night—the lonely hour of 4 A.M.

When a man is found hanging upside down inside a willow tree on Hampstead Heath, surrounded by a baffling assortment of occult objects, the Peculiar Crimes Unit is called in to investigate. Was this a botched satanic ritual pulled off by bored teenagers, a gang initiation, or the work of a mastermind with grander intentions? Bryant and May set off in search of answers and are soon reminded that London is a city steeped in blood and magic.

When another body is pulled from the river at dawn, it becomes clear that a killer lurks in the night. To catch him, the PCU switches to graveyard shifts, but the team still comes up short. As they explore a night city where the normal rules do not apply, they’re drawn deeper into a case that involves murder, arson, kidnapping, blackmail, loneliness, and bats.

May takes a technological approach, while Bryant goes in search of his usual academics and misfits for help, for this investigation reveals impossibilities at every turn. How do you stop a killer who appears not to exist? Luckily, impossibilities are what the Peculiar Crimes Unit does best.  (Amazon)

but a jail cell wasn’t what she had in mind…

Christmas in the little pacific northwest town of Coupeville, Washington is Tessa Brown’s favorite holiday. But this year, with her parents out following their dreams as a touring gospel duo, her responsibilities managing busy coffee shop Violet, finding her assistant Melissa living in a car, and her own relationship in a tattered heap on the nearby Oak Harbor Pub floor, Tessa struggles to maintain her usual holiday cheeriness.

When the body of a handsome stranger is found just down a muddy trail from her home, Tessa is about ready to scrap the holiday all together.

Reluctantly leaning on her ex-boyfriend Ben and his many connections for support, and listening to her perceptive rescue pup, Kipsie, Tessa begins to sift through the evidence that seems to point directly to Melissa, at least in the eyes of Detective Cooke, an unforgiving man who wants nothing more than to wrap up the case before Christmas Day.

With a barrage of possible, however unlikely suspects, and a killer stalking the house, Tessa vows to not only follow the clues but her heart as well; no matter where it might lead her.

The Peppermint Tea Chronicles: 44 Scotland Street Series (13) by [McCall Smith, Alexander]The latest book in Alexander McCall Smith’s popular 44 Scotland Street series is a sheer delight.

Summer has come to Scotland Street. The long days have prompted its denizens to engage in flights of fancy. Some, like the Duke of Johannesburg’s plan to create a microlite seaplane, are literal flights, and some, like the vain Bruce Anderson’s idea of settling down with one of his many admirers, are more metaphorical.

With the domineering Irene off pursuing academic challenges, Stuart and Bertie are free to indulge in summer fun. Stuart reconnects with an old acquaintance over refreshing peppermint tea while Bertie takes his friend Ranald Braveheart Macpherson to the circus. But their trip to the big top becomes rather more than the pleasant diversion they were hoping for.

Once again, Scotland Street teems with the daily triumphs and challenges of those who call it home, and provides a warm, wise, and witty chronicle of the affairs in this corner of the world.
