How is one to start again after losing the one thing that speaks to your heart and fuels your passion?

After a serious accident leaves Calliope Rose Collins unable to continue with the career that has owned her soul for most of her life, she returns to Foxtail Lake, Hollister House, Great Aunt Gracie, and childhood friend, Officer Cass Wylander, where she begins to rebuild her life from the ashes of what she once had.

In book 3 of The Cat in the Attic series – It’s Valentine’s Day and Callie has finally been made a full time reporter for the local newspaper. Her first assignment as a full time reporter is to cover the case of a local cupid, a matchmaker who seems intent on coupling up all the single residents in the area. Things are going well for Callie and her story until one of the men she is sent to interview turns up dead. (Goodreads)

The writing style flows smoothly and defines the characters very clearly by their actions and words. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and through much of the book, I felt like I was right there in Foxtail Lake, watching all of the action taking place. The mystery is well plotted and had enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider.

The characters are well developed and well rounded. I love the relationship between Callie and her Great Aunt Gracie. You can tell how much they love each other and how close they are. And her and Cass are getting along well and developing a strong relationship. I enjoyed the Cupid aspect of the book, that added an extra layer, in my opinion. And I love all the animals that appear in this book.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. It has everything that you would want in a cozy.
