Divide and Concord (The Wine Trail Mysteries Book 5) by [J. C. Eaton] Ellington is a sucker for doing good deeds, but when she agrees to let a film crew use her winery as a backdrop and one of them turns up dead, she’ll have to act fast because this crew knows how to put on an act . . .

When screenwriter and winery co-owner Norrie Ellington agrees to let her producer film a movie scene at Two Witches Winery, her biggest concerns revolve around the crew trampling her precious vines and starstruck fans crowding the vineyard to spot the famous actors. But nothing had prepared her for the film’s director, an unbearable diva with a growing list of unreasonable demands—along with a growing list of enemies. And when the director turns up dead, apparently the victim of foul play, a very public altercation Norrie had with the victim the day before puts her in the spotlight as the lead suspect.

Knowing she’ll have to root out the killer herself to get off the narrow-minded local sheriff’s most-wanted list, Norrie compiles a large selection of potential suspects, including vengeful actors the director had once blacklisted and even the director’s estranged husband, a high-profile candy magnate trying to bring a burgeoning market for concord grapes to the region. Weeding out false leads and planted clues, Norrie knows it’ll take some quick thinking to track down the culprit, before she becomes the murderer’s next target in a deadly harvest . . .

Death on Tuckernuck (A Merry Folger Nantucket Mystery Book 6) by [Francine Mathews]

In the Category 3 winds of a late-season hurricane, Nantucket police detective Merry Folger and her team attempt a rescue off the secluded island of Tuckernuck—only to discover a deadly secret.
As a Category 3 hurricane bears down on Nantucket, Dionis Mather and her father have their work cut out for them. Their family business is to ferry goods and people back and forth from Tuckernuck, the private island off Nantucket’s western tip, a place so remote and exclusive that it is off the electric grid. As caretakers of the small plot of sand in the middle of the Atlantic, the Mathers are responsible for evacuating Tuckernuck’s residents, who range from a stubborn elderly native who refuses to leave her family home to the abandoned summer house pets of an absentee NFL quarterback. But as the storm surge rises and the surf warnings mount, Dionis has to make a choice: abandon whatever—or whoever—was left behind, or risk her own life by plunging back into the maelstrom. Even she has no idea what evil the hurricane is sheltering.
When the coast guard notifies the Nantucket police of a luxury yacht grounded in the shoals off Tuckernuck’s northern edge—with two shooting victims lying in the main cabin—detective Meredith Folger throws herself into an investigation before the hurricane sweeps all crime-scene evidence out to sea. Merry is supposed to be on leave this weekend, dancing at her own wedding, but the Cat 3 has thrown her blissful plans into chaos. As her battered house fills with stranded wedding guests and flood waters rise all over Nantucket Island, Merry has her own choice to make: How much should she risk in order to bring a criminal to justice?  (Amazon)

Sleuthing In The Pink: A Paranormal Cozy Mystery (A Witch's Cove Mystery Book 4) by [Vella Day]A new job. A new hobby. And then death by bowling pin.

Hi, I’m Glinda Goodall. After enjoying my waitressing job at my aunt’s restaurant for the last three years, I got sucked into opening up my own private investigation firm–as an amateur sleuth, of course. Just because I was a good listener[read: gossip seeker] and helped solve a few crimes, that didn’t mean I had any business hanging up my shingle. But hang it I did.

In need of a different gossip source, my partner and I joined a bowling league. I know, right? I’ve shunned anything to do with athletics my whole life. Just my luck, the league had only begun when someone ends up dead on the alley with a pin in his mouth–make that a pink pin. And no, I didn’t kill him, not that everyone believes me.

But don’t worry. I’ll be fine. I just needed to find the killer. If you need to find me, I’ll either be working part time at the Tiki Hut Grill or at my new digs above the Wine and Cheese Emporium.  (Amazon)

Ghost Mortem: A Paranormal Cozy Mystery Romance (Ghost Detective Book 1) by [Jane Hinchey]Whoever said that ghosts exist must be out of their mind.

Oh, wait. That was me. I said that. If you’d told me yesterday that ghosts were real I would have smiled, nodded, and called a shrink to fix your deluded little mind. Now it’s my turn to question my sanity when the ghost of my best friend turns up in my apartment. Was it the tequila shots the night before causing this apparition? Or one too many bumps to the head — let’s face it, clumsy is my middle name, it really wouldn’t surprise me if I’d done some irreparable damage to my grey matter over the years.

Now I have to accept that the paranormal does, in fact, exist. But sadly, my ghost friend is lacking something besides his body. His memory. He doesn’t know how he died but suspects foul play and he wants my help to find his killer. I can’t refuse, I’m a sucker for a good mystery and the chance to bring my friends killer to justice is too good to pass up.

Surprises abound as I discover a secret talent for sleuthing, not to mention an unexpected inheritance of a talking cat among other things. But the biggest problem of all? Captain Cowboy Hot Pants, or as he likes to be called, Detective Kade Galloway of the Firefly Bay PD. He’s one smokin’ cop, but my distrust of the police runs deep and despite his assurances that he’s here to help can I really trust him, or is his offer of assistance designed to keep me from discovering the truth?

I guess I’ll find out when death comes knocking on my door.

Review of The Secret Of Bones

48743578. sy475 Synopsis:

Second in a new series from national bestselling author Kylie Logan, The Secrets of Bones is a riveting mystery following Jazz Ramsey as she trains a cadaver dog.

Assembly Day at St. Catherine’s dawns bright and cloudless as professional woman gather from all around Ohio to talk to the schoolgirls about their careers in medicine, at NASA, and as yoga instructors. Administrative assistant Jazz Ramsey is involved herself, giving the girls a taste of her lifelong passion: cadaver dog training. Her adorable new puppy Wally hasn’t been certified yet, so she borrows the fully-trained Gus from a friend and hides a few bones in the unused fourth floor of the school for him to find.

The girls are impressed when Gus easily finds the first bone, but for the second Gus seems to have lost the scent, and heads confidently to a part of the floor where Jazz is sure no bones are hidden—at least not any that she’s put there. But Gus is a professional, and sure enough, behind a door that shouldn’t have been opened in decades, is a human skeleton.

Jazz recognizes the skeleton as Bernadette Quinn, an ex-teacher at the school who’d never returned after one Christmas break, though letters and postcards from her had seemed to indicate there was no cause for worry. But now it seems Bernadette never left the school at all, and her hiding place makes it clear: this was murder.

Bernadette’s strident personality means there are a plethora of suspects inside the school and out of it, and as Jazz gets closer to the truth she can’t help but wonder if someone might be dogging her footsteps . . . (Amazon)

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The mystery was well plotted and there were enough suspects to consider and clues to sort through. I was actually surprised how the book ended, and it was a pleasant surprise.

The characters are well rounded and well developed. I like the fact that Jazz works at a catholic girls school, that can provide a lot of interesting situations in the future. I like Sister Eileen, she is spunky and smart and she and Jazz work good together. Nick is back and Jazz is getting closer with him, and that is a good thing. I am disappointed that Wally was not in the book more, he only made an appearance a few times. I wish that Wally was in the book more, with his training and doggies antics. Maybe in book three, Wally will be more present.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series when it is published.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, St. Martin’s Press, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.

. . . it was a fabulous story. I loved the craziness of Maizie and her family.
~A Chick Who Reads

The dialogue is snappy with a nice blend of introspection, so the plot keeps moving. And speaking of plot, there are plenty of twists to keep the reader guessing who’s who and whodunwhat.
~Mysteries With Character

Maizie’s mixing with international stars, spies, and her mother’s dark past in her sixth case in The Wall Street Journal bestselling series.

“Hollywood glitz meets backwoods grit in this fast-paced ride on D-list celeb Maizie Albright’s waning star. Sassy, Sexy, and Fun.” — Phoebe Fox, author of the Breakup Doctor series.

#WannabeDetectiving While ex-celebrity Maizie Albright’s dreams of becoming a for-real private investigator have not exactly been dashed, they have been slightly thwarted. Her ex-manager and still-mother, Vicki Albright, has taken the helm of Nash Security Services while rebuilding her entertainment management company. Sometimes with the same clients. Like Chinese action star, Lili Liang, who’s making the film Unlucky 18 in Georgia.

Thus far, Lili’s living up to her movie title. Her kung fu coach is missing. Her boyfriend’s disappeared. And her director, who gambled on her with the part, might be gambling with her life.

Maizie’s luck is also running out. Maizie and Nash find themselves struggling to balance a new partnership and new relationship between missing persons’ cases, wild goose chases, and tracking a bullet into dangerous places. Sometimes it’s enough to make a girl NOT want to put a ring on it. When it comes to facing an 18-caliber killer, what will Maizie put up as the target? Her heart or her life?

Review of Dead On The Vine

51318843. sx318 sy475 Synopsis:

Perfect for fans of B. B. Haywood and Peg Cochran, Ellie B. White’s whimsical series debut is full of farm fun, complete with a helpful baby pig.

Reluctant farmer Charlotte Finn needs the help of the livestock to sleuth a mysterious death.

Charlotte Finn never wanted to inherit the family’s produce farm–much less plow a heap of money into it. Her plan is to hammer a great big FOR SALE sign into the farm’s fallow furrows–but Charlotte’s sunny hopes of a quick sale succumb to a killing frost when she finds a dead body entwined supine in the tomato vines. The poor man, it seems, was run through…with a pitchfork?

Now, Charlotte is stuck with running the farm in the midst of a murder investigation. Charlotte’s knowledge of farming is smaller than her bank balance, so she relies on caretakers Joe and Alice Wong and their farmhands. Can she trust them? She doesn’t know them. There’s also farmer Samuel Brown, who still carries a childhood grudge. But the case gets personal when Charlotte learns that the victim might have been her own kin–and seeds of suspicion grow into a fertile field of suspects.

Charlotte turns to the farm’s baby pig to help root out the killer. Soon, the goats, geese, and horse join in, but will Charlotte harvest a murderer–or buy the farm? (Goodreads)

The characters are well rounded and well developed. Charlotte, Diane and Beau have been friends for a long time and now they have to figure out a murderer before their dream of farm life gets thrown away. They can also count on Joe, Alice and Sam to help them figure it out. And the best sleuth of all is Horse, Charlotte’s pig and his sidekick, Mrs. Robinson. No killer stands a chance when Horse is on the case.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The mystery was well plotted and there were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider. I did not know who the killer was for sure until it was revealed at the end.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. If you give it a try, I think you will enjoy it.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Crooked Lane, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.

Review of Summerhouse Reunion

Summerhouse Reunion
Island Reunion, Book #1
Kathi Daley
5 Stars

Summerhouse Reunion (Island Reunion Trilogy Book 1) by [Kathi Daley]Synopsis:

Five weeks, four friends, three novels, two romances, and one cold case mystery, combine to bring you the first in a series of reunion trilogies by USA Today Bestselling author Kathi Daley.

A story of love, sacrifice, personal growth, and new beginnings.

Kelly Green and her sister Kayla grew up summering on a small island off the coast of Northern California. After Kayla’s death, Kelly returns to the island where she joins three friends from her past, to commemorate both, Kayla’s life, and the life of a sixteen year old girl who disappeared from the island twenty five years earlier. Now in their early forties, each of the four remaining friends struggle to find a way to deal with their loss while also dealing with their own personal crisis.

Meanwhile, the new sheriff on the island, also a childhood friend, seems to have stumbled onto an interesting pattern the previous sheriff overlooked all together. Apparently a sixteen year old girl has gone missing from the island every fifth summer since Peggy disappeared. Some were assumed to have run away, while others were reported as missing, but one thing is for certain, none of the girls were ever seen again.

As the sheriff, the women, and other friends from the past, work together to piece together the random clues they hope will provide a mirror to the past, disturbing evidence begins to surface suggesting that the next girl to disappear will disappear this summer.

The Summerhouse Trilogy
Summer Reunion
Topsail Sundays
Campfire Secrets (Goodreads)

This is the first book in a new series and it has everything that I look for in a cozy: engaging characters, a relaxing setting and some mysteries to consider.

The characters are well rounded and well developed. All of the friends have lived through heartache and they are still trying to make sense of things. Kelly lost her sister, Carrie got divorced, and Nora is unhappy in her marriage. We have not met Quinn yet, but I am sure she has had heartache too. Seeing how they deal with their heartaches and grow is what makes this book so great.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick easy read. The setting was inviting and pulled me into the story from the very beginning. Trying to figure out the missing girls was challenging and if they hope to save someone from disappearing again, they will have to work fast.

I would suggest this book to anyone who enjoys a real crafted cozy mystery. I am greatly looking forward to reading the next one.

“In Final Sentence, the author smartly blends crime, recipes, and an array of cookbooks that all should covet in a witty, well-plotted whodunit.” —Kate Carlisle, New York Times bestselling author of the Bibliophile Mysteries

“Readers will relish the extensive cookbook suggestions, the cooking primer, and the whole foodie phenomenon. Gerber’s perky tone with a multigenerational cast makes this series a good match for Lorna Barrett’s Booktown Mystery series . . .” —Library Journal

“So pull out your cowboy boots and settle in for a delightful read. Grilling the Subject is a delicious new mystery that will leave you hungry for more.” —Carstairs Considers Blog

Seas the Day (A Seafood Capers Mystery Book 1) by [Maggie Toussaint]

Caterer River Holloway cooks like a dream and is known on Shell Island as a “finder” of things. Which is why a desperate mother begs River to track down her grown son, Chili Bolz, who’s vanished.

Deputy Lance Hamlyn can’t find the missing man, so he teams up with River. The missing person case boils over into something frightening when Chili’s mother falls victim to a brutal assault. Worse, her dying words incriminate River’s friends in both kidnapping and, now, murder. River soon finds herself caught in an unsavory recipe for disaster.

Despite catering events and the return of her absentee boyfriend, River finds the number of suspects growing longer than her food shopping list. Along the way she befriends a black cat who becomes her crime-solving partner. River must locate Chili and discover who killed his mother before her own goose is quite literally cooked.

Maggie Toussaint serves up a fun and captivating read in Seas the Day, the first in her Seafood Capers series.
