Slightly Murderous Intent: A Southern California Mystery
by Lida Sideris

Slightly Murderous Intent is a quirky mystery with plenty of twists and turns to throw you off the scent of the real culprit.
~Reading Is My SuperPower

With nonstop action and twists galore, Slightly Murderous Intent kept me entertained from beginning to end. Corrie’s a delightful protagonist with a can-do attitude and a closet full of weaponry, which kept me wondering which trick she’d pull out of the bag next.
~Mysteries with Character

Narrated in a light conversational tone, this well-written, fast-paced mystery made for an entertaining read.

Review of Thanksgiving Past

Thanksgiving Past

Cottage on Gooseberry Bay, Book #2

Kathi Daley

5 Stars

Synopsis:

USA Today Bestselling author Kathi Daley brings you a heartwarming mystery series about finding answers and fostering hope while building friendships and embracing the magic of life by the sea and small town holidays.

Ainsley Holloway came to Gooseberry Bay to find answers about her past. She came to find an explanation for the dreams that had haunted her after the death of the cop who’d both rescued and raised her, and she came to find the identity of the family she couldn’t remember but assumed at one point she’d been part of.

She hoped that by finding these answers she’d also find healing. She hoped that once she exorcised the memories buried deep in her mind, she’d find peace.

The Cottage at Gooseberry Bay is a series about, not only finding answers, but finding hope. It’s a story about family and friendship, and it’s a story about the ties that bind one resident of a small close knit community to another. It’s a series about shared holidays, festivals, and celebrations. It’s a series about shared heartbreak and hardship as well. And it’s a series about the bond that can be forged amongst strangers when tragedy binds two or more individuals with a common goal.

In book 2 in the series, Ainsley finally meets Adam Winchester. Intent of finding the answers she came to Washington to unveil in the first place, she begins to initiate herself into his life. Adam seems to have his own set of demons to deal with and isn’t nearly as cooperative as Ainsley hoped he’d be, but she’d dealt with men harboring inner demons before and she knew that with enough time and the right approach she’d break him.

Meanwhile, while digging into the histories of the founding families at the local library, she comes across an article that mentions a local tragedy which occurred five Thanksgiving’s ago. Ainsley figures she can use a distraction while waiting for Adam to come around to her way of thinking, so she gets the gang together and asks them if they would be interested in a joint effort to help her solve this cold case mystery. As they had a few weeks earlier when researching the death of a local clerk, they enthusiastically join Ainsley in her mission to find the answers that no one previously seems to have been able to uncover.   (Goodreads)

Review:

The characters are well rounded and well developed.  Ainsley has become very good friends with Parker, Josie and Jemma.  They make a very good investigative team, they all have different skills that they bring.  Ainsley is still trying to figure out what the dreams that she is having means and who the women are that she keeps seeing in those dreams.  And they have found a cold case that they want to look into, so that is what they are working on.

The writing style does smoothly and the book is an easy read.  If you have read any of this author’s other books, you know that she excels in her descriptive writing and that helps to make her books more enjoyable.  You also know that she has more than one mystery to solve, which makes the book twice as nice.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery.  I am sure that book three will answer all of more of our questions.

Paws for Concern (A Canine Confections Mystery)
by Amy Hueston

Paws for Concern is a “doggone” delightful start to this new series, from the adorable cover to the very last page.
~Reading Is My SuperPower

About The Book — The Word Collectors

Life is good for Samantha Armstrong. She left her cheating boyfriend, settled into her cozy cottage on her Aunt Mary’s Palm Beach estate and is finally opening Canine Confections, her dream dog bakery on the ritzy Worth Avenue.

But Samantha’s happy new life goes doggone crazy when Palm Beach resident and pastry shop owner Whitney Goodwin is found dead on Canine Confections’ floor, whisking Samantha into the middle of a murder investigation. The only bright spot is that she finds herself adopting Whitney’s loveable dog Sweet Pea.

As the killer strikes again, it’s obvious that the shopkeepers on Worth Avenue are the target. Samantha’s impatience won’t let sleeping dogs lie. She takes it upon herself to move things along by padding around town with Sweet Pea and sniffing out clues to clear her name and Canine Confections’ reputation—before it is too late …

Includes a recipe from Chef Sarah Deters at the test kitchen of Three Dog Bakery, the original bakery for dogs!

Book Review: John Green's Turtles All the Way Down is a Page Turner – The Pel Mel

The characters are well developed and well rounded.  I enjoyed  getting to meet Samantha and her Aunt Mary.  Although her aunt has money, she does not flaunt it and is very down to earth.  Samantha had benefited from Aunt Mary’s money because she was able to open her dog bakery, Canine Confections.  But just as she is about to open her bakery, Samantha finds a dead body in there.  Now Samantha has to find the killer so she can open the bakery and put the murder behind her.   She will have some help from Tracy, a wanna-be reporter and her employee, and Sweet Pea, the victim’s dog.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning.  The author’s descriptions of Palm Beach made the area come alive in my mind’s eye.   The mystery was well plotted and held my interest throughout the book.  There were enough suspects to consider and  clues to sift through.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery.  I am looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and provided my honest review.

The Pink Pumpkin Party: Paranormal Cozy Mystery (A Witch's Cove Mystery Book 7) by [Vella Day]

How can a perfectly planned Halloween party go really, really wrong? Easy. A dead body shows up in my decorated coffin. Welcome to my witchy world.

Hi, I’m Glinda Goodall, the good witch from the south, who is a hopeless snoop turned amateur sleuth. I had one job this October, and that was to decorate for the annual Halloween fest at my aunt’s restaurant. It was organized to the max: ghosts floating on the ceiling, a coffin with a vampire, and a small cemetery surrounded by pink painted pumpkins. Spooky yet festive.

Just my luck, someone was murdered at the party. I might not have inserted myself into the investigation had the corpse not been a very important person to our family. At first, it seemed like an open and shut case since several witnesses saw Spiderman kill the vampire. The problem? A ton of guests had similar outfits. What was worse was that many people were dressed as vampires–just like the dead guy. The big question was whether our friend was the intended victim or not.

With the help from my psychic cousin and my talented computer expert business partner, we’re sure to get to the bottom of this. So, stop in at the Tiki Hut Grill for a cup of java, and you just might see me. (Amazon)

Murder Comes to Call (A Beryl and Edwina Mystery Book 4) by [Jessica Ellicott]

The lean years following World War I can lead to desperate acts—even in the quiet English village of Walmsley Parva. When a series of burglaries seems to culminate in murder, brash American Beryl Helliwell and proper Brit Edwina Davenport are eager to solve the case . . .

World-renowned adventuress Beryl Helliwell cited for “reckless” motoring? Why, the very idea! Constable Gibbs just has it in for her. The solution? Charm the magistrate, of course. But days after Beryl’s appearance before the bench, she and Edwina pay a visit to the magistrate only to find his home ransacked and the man himself lying dead at the bottom of a grand staircase.

Given the state of the house, his death appears to be connected to a rash of robberies in the village. Declan O’Shea, the handsome helper Beryl hired to assist their aged gardener Simpkins, falls under suspicion after having had his own run-in with the magistrate—but mostly, Beryl believes, because he’s Irish.

While unofficially looking into the magistrate’s murder, the ladies are hired in their official capacity as private inquiry agents to find census reports that have gone missing. Is someone trying to hide something from the census takers—and could that theft have anything to do with the magistrate’s death? Beryl and Edwina are once again in fine form as they engage in a little reckless sleuthing to bring these assorted mysteries to a speedy conclusion. . . . (Amazon)

One Minute to Midnight: Magic and Mayhem Universe (Midnight Chronicles Book 1) by [Jane Hinchey]

To protect the townsfolk of Assjacket, West Virginia, from my out of control, wonky magic, I’m unceremoniously thrown in the magic pokey. Until Baba Yaga herself offers me a lifeline. With conditions. Accept the role of magic bounty hunter or remain in the pokey indefinitely.

My first assignment? Track down a witch suspected of practicing blood magic. Armed with rusty investigative skills and a shaky handle on my magic, I’m determined to bring the rogue witch to justice and prove everyone in Assjacket wrong.

The trail takes me to New Orleans, and just when the witch is within reach, she slips away, leaving a dead body at my feet. Fortunately for me, smokin’ hot local cop Jax Lincoln is on the case. Unfortunately for me, I’m his number one suspect.

Now I not only need to find the rogue witch but clear my name and prove to everyone back home that I’m not the disaster they think I am.

With All Hallows Eve fast approaching, I’m determined to one: get a handle on my magic before I blow up another building, two: apprehend the dark witch before she releases any more of her doodoo with the voodoo, and three: convince Jax that setting his pants on fire was purely accidental and that I’m not that bad a witch, I promise.

Review of The Killer Outdoors

Synopsis:

Welcome to Bushwhack, New Mexico: home to tourists, the great outdoors, and murder…

Tourist season has hit Bushwhack and Andie Sullivan—owner of Sullivan’s Adventure Company—is ready for her town to fill up with city slickers, snotty teens, and the dollars she needs to keep her business afloat after her messy divorce from Bucky Gunn—local celebrity rafting guide and Sullivan’s main competition. With all her guided tours booked, it finally seems lady luck is on her side.

But then Bucky is found dead. Not great.

And she’s the prime murder suspect. Double not great.

Being framed for murder sucks worse than a rabid chipmunk bite. Andie’s determined to clear her name, and this time her survival training skills won’t be used to fetch an ice pack. But how long can she stay one step ahead of a killer before she becomes the final victim? (Goodreads)

Review:

The characters are well rounded and well developed. Andie is busy running Sullivan’s Adventure Company, trying to make it as good as it can be. Her ex-husband has a rival company and they have had their differences. But she never expected Bucky, her ex, to turn up dead. But that is exactly what happens, and now Andie has to figure out who killed him, before she is up a creek without a paddle.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning. The mystery was well developed and there were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider. I was surprised to find out who the killer was.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well plotted mystery. I will definitely be reading the next book when it is released.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and provided my honest review.

The Killer Outdoors (A Southwest Exposure Mystery)
by Jodi Linton

I enjoyed the characters and the fast-paced ride that kept me interested and turning the pages. The Killer Outdoors is a great start to a new series.

The Killer Outdoors was a hilarious, fun cozy mystery that will keep you guessing.
~Moonlight Rendezvous

This shorter cozy packs a punch when it comes to characters and murder . . . I was quite surprised when the murderer was revealed and the whole reason why things happened as they did.
~Storeybook Reviews

A solid start to a new cozy mystery series . . . Set in a small well described town that is full of a wide range of characters that you can picture in your mind. Then you get the tours with their beautiful settings that make you wish you were there.

Welcome to Bushwhack, New Mexico: home to tourists, the great outdoors, and murder…

Tourist season has hit Bushwhack and Andie Sullivan–owner of Sullivan’s Adventure Company–is ready for her town to fill up with city slickers, snotty teens, and the dollars she needs to keep her business afloat after her messy divorce from Bucky Gunn–local celebrity rafting guide and Sullivan’s main competition.

Book Review - St Mark's C of E Primary School

Hey Y’all,

I’m just a girl from Texas, minus the big hair…and oh, yeah, a horse. My crew consists of two kiddos, one which inherited my makeup addiction, and a husband still living out his garage band dreams, but in our closet next to my shoe collection.

I love to hang out with my readers, discussing books, recipes and just everyday shenanigans. I got started in the romance community, which you might know a few of my books from there. Now, I’m all about the cozies…and the coffee. Yeah, can’t forget that.

I’d love for you to come join my reader group, Jodi’s Book Corner or come like me on Facebook to discover my books. And chat. Naturally.
