Review of A Dashie Discovery

Synopsis:

Hi, I’m Leslie Winters, and when I left Houston for my hometown of Pecan, Texas, I needed a do-over in a big way. So I set up shop in my dad’s old shed and took on clients less likely to run off with now-cheating exes.

My pet-grooming business turned out to be a pretty fun way to make ends meet… until I dropped off two tough Pomeranian clients at their home, and found their dead owner waiting for us.

Then local law enforcement finds me at the scene, and my dachshund finds the murder weapon right in front of them. Oh, boy!

Now I’m out to solve the crime before a certain dreamy detective tries to collar me for the crime. But someone is on my tail, and they’re making it clear they don’t want me to investigate.

After a few close shaves, I’m now more determined than ever to solve this case. Can I figure out whodunnit before I wind up in deep do-do or worse?

Review:

The characters are well developed and well rounded.  Leslie came back to her hometown when her ex cheated on her.  She is living with her parents and her Dacshund Bandit.  She has a pet-grooming business that is doing pretty good. But when she goes to drop two of her clients, she finds the owner dead. She is considered a person of interest so she decides to find out who the real killer is.

The writing style did not flow as smoothly as it sometimes does.

The book could have used more editing.  The author is very talented

in her descriptive writing and this made the book more enjoyable.  The mystery is well plotted and it was not easily solved.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a real crafted cozy mystery.  I plan on reading the next book in the series.

Now, between a surplus of suspects and a victim who wasn’t who she seemed, Bailey’s edging dangerously close to a killer who isn’t looking to bring joy to the world—or to Bailey—this deadly Noel . . . (Goodreads)

Review:

Bailey has her hands full preparing the candy shop for the Yuletide celebration in Harvest, Ohio. She hardly has time to spend with her boyfriend, Aiden, who is a sheriff deputy. So when her ex, Eric, shows up from New York to film a Christmas special, she is not very happy. And when the producer of the special is murdered, and her ex is the prime suspect, she is furious. But she knows that Eric would never kill anyone, so she agrees to figure out the killer.

The characters are well rounded and well developed. I enjoy spending time with Bailey, her grandmother and her friends. I was very happy that Bailey’s friend, Cass, was once again able to help with some sleuthing. I enjoy getting to read about their antics and conversations, they always make me laugh. And who does not love Jethro, Aiden’s mom’s pig, who goes everywhere with his mom.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and I felt like I was right there in Harvest, smelling the aromas in the candy shop and seeing all of the decorations around the square. The writing style flows smoothly and allowed me to have a very good understanding of the characters through their actions and words. The mystery was carried on well throughout the entire book and had enough twists and turns to keep me guessing.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well written cozy mystery. The author brings the Amish culture to life and that is a plus in my book. In my opinion, this is a must read book and series.

Book 1 of London Lovett’s brand new cozy mystery series!

When Anna St. James graduated college with a business degree, she never expected to find herself running a boarding house on a small island off the east coast. But life throws a lot of curves and Anna has certainly had her share of them. Now, settled into life as owner and landlady of the Moon River Boarding House on Frostfall Island, Anna couldn’t imagine living anywhere else or without the unique and somewhat eccentric tenants she considers family.

Anna would be perfectly content baking and keeping house but Frostfall Island, lovely, remote and somewhat wild, always manages to throw a curve of its own. Most of the time, Frostfall is a charming island with a busy fishing boat harbor and town that attracts summer tourists. But occasionally, quite occasionally, if that’s a phrase, there’s an unexpected murder. Without a dedicated police force, the locals look to Anna to solve crimes. She’s not entirely sure how she landed the role of amateur sleuth but she takes her side job seriously.

When a man dies in a pirate battle reenactment, Anna steps into gear. Only this time, she has a parallel mystery to solve. Her newest tenant, Nathaniel Smith, is quite the puzzle, a puzzle who came with a piercing blue gaze and a trove of secrets.

Review Of Mooved To Murder

Mooved To Murder
Chelsea Lawson Cozy Mystery, Book #1
CeeCee James
5 Stars

Synopsis:

“Mooved to Murder was one of the best books I have read in 2019!”Chelsea Lawson is a ride-or-die friend. When her best friend Tilly asked her to stay at her place to watch her six-year-old daughter and pets for a while, Chelsea didn’t hesitate to say yes. What she didn’t realize was that “Tilly’s place” was a micro-farm and “a few pets” included a cow and two goats as well as a child who was too smart for her own good.

Chelsea was already in over her head before the dead body turned up.

When the local community, instead of offering support, tries to run her out of town, Chelsea suspects something is going on. Something big and rotten. The mayor makes it clear she’s not wanted and the townspeople give her the cold shoulder, but that only makes Chelsea more determined to uncover their secrets.
But no one expected the repercussions those secrets would have, especially Chelsea. Now life on the farm is hanging in the balance. Will Chelsea ever be able to wake up from this nightmare?
These cozy mysteries are wrapped up by the end of the book even as Chelsea’s life continues on to the next. Sweet, clean, funny reads with a little suspense and a lot of animal cuddles thrown in make these mysteries a fan favorite. Next in the series- Farmer in the Dead (Goodreads)

Review:

The characters were well developed and well rounded. I really enjoyed getting to know Chelsea, she seemed very down-to-earth to me. I could imagine her being my friendly helpful neighbor. I really enjoyed the fact that she did not rush head first into an investigation and put herself in harm’s way. She has her hands full trying to take care of her friend’s six year old daughter, Emma, and all of the farm animals. There were lots of funny moments with Chelsea and the animals, it had me laughing out loud.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick easy way. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing. The farm came to life in my mind’s eye and I enjoyed that a lot.

There were a couple of mysteries to solve in this book, which is a plus in my book. There were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider and they were intriguing enough to keep me engaged.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I really enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to the next one in the series.

Spotlight On Jackie Layton

Today on my blog I have a Spotlight on Author Jackie Layton. She writes the Low Country Dog Walker Mystery Series. Give them a try.

About Jackie Layton

I’ve been a reader as long as I can remember, and I’ve dreamed of writing for years. With encouragement from my husband and family, I pursued this dream.

I’ve always loved visiting the coast for vacations. The beach is my happy place despite cracking my ribs while riding the waves and getting a hook stuck in my foot that required a trip to the emergency room. When the doctor pushed the hook out of my foot, I learned a person really can see stars when in extreme pain.

When a scavenger hunt turns up a dead body, dog walker Andi Grace Scott will have to make a dogged effort to collar the culprit . . .

Setting out for a day of fun on her town’s first-ever scavenger hunt, Low Country dog walker Andi Grace Scott is dismayed to find an unattended dog wandering the streets—but that’s nothing compared to the shock she gets when she finds a dead man floating in the swimming pool of the dog’s owner. What’s more, she’d seen the very same man having a very public altercation with his wife just the night before. Despite being warned off the case by the local sheriff, Andi Grace can’t help nosing around to find out who’s behind the foul deed.

It turns out the victim was a well-known radio personality who focused on cold-case investigations and was rumored to be breaking a huge story on his next show. As Andi Grace digs deeper to learn who may have wanted him dead, she’s faced with a suspect list that includes a cold-hearted widow who stands to inherit a bundle, a local country star with family demons to hide, and any number of unknown criminals who may have been the focus of the victim’s big reveal. Whether the motive was love gone bad, a career under duress, or a killer’s deadly secret, Andi Grace knows she’ll have to act fast before she becomes the next cold case herself . . .

Praise for the Books of Jackie Layton

“Andi Grace is adorable, resilient, and has a doggedly curious need to solve a murder. A pleasure to read.” —C. Hope Clark, award-winning author of Edisto Tidings

“Completely charming—and exactly what a cozy mystery should be. Amateur sleuth (and dog whisperer) Andi Grace Scott is wonderfully endearing, and her devotion to her pooches—and to justice—will have you rooting for her from the absolutely irresistible page one. Bow wow—What a terrific debut!” —Hank Phillippi Ryan, nationally best-selling and award-winning author of The Murder List

“I promptly fell head over heels for this cast of characters, and the dogs burrowed quickly into my heart. The plot of Bite the Dust was intriguing and complex, with plenty of surprising twists and turns. What impressed me the most, though, was the warm tone of the author’s writing voice . . . you just want to snuggle in and keep reading.” —MeezCarrie
