Dominique Daoust is the author of The Deadly Exclusives Trilogy. She is a journalism graduate from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. When not reading or writing, she likes to do yoga, drink margaritas, incessantly quote Friends and listen to rap while doing mundane household chores.
The author has written a historical cozy trilogy, and this is the first one. All three books will be released on April 1st.
Secret sources have a whole new meaning.
Newbie reporter Rita Larose is tired of getting assigned boring stories at one of Montreal’s most popular newspapers. It’s 1930 after all, women don’t need to only write about household chores anymore! But when a high hat socialite gossips about the New Year’s Eve party at the Bonne Nuit Hotel, a riveting mystery falls right into Rita’s lap. This is her chance to prove to herself and her underestimating colleagues that she has what it takes to write the hard-hitting articles.
While going undercover as a maid to get the scoop, Rita will soon discover unexpected friendships and an unusual gift of her own to contend with. Will she be able to juggle this newfound ability while not blowing her cover and jeopardizing her career-making article?
A Houston reporter-turned-mixologist mixes it up with murder in this series debut from Michelle Hillen Klump, superbly catering to fans of Diane Mott Davidson and Lee Hollis.
Bad news for Samantha Warren: The plucky Houston, Texas, reporter lost her job and her fiancé in rapid succession. But Sam has a way of making lemonade out of the bitterest of lemons. At a meeting of the local historical-homes council, she serves up the homemade bitters that she made as gifts for her wedding party. She intends to use that as her “in” to become an in-demand party mixologist. But the party’s over for one of the council members, who keels over dead soon after he sips the bereft bride’s bitter brew.
It turns out that the victim, Mark, was poisoned—his drink spiked with oleander. Since Sam mixed the drink that Mark imbibed right before his demise, she finds herself at the front of the suspect line. Now, she’ll have to use all of her reporter’s wisdom and wiles to clear her name.
Who could have wanted Mark dead? His wife, Gabby? His girlfriend, Darcy? Someone who wanted his seat on the council? Or another citizen of this sweet Texas town that holds some seedy secrets?
Job hunting, building her mixology business, and fending off late-night phone calls from her nearly betrothed don’t leave much time for sleuthing. But if Sam can’t “pour” over the clues to find the killer, it may soon be last call for her. (Amazon)
Review:
The characters are well rounded and well developed. Samantha has lost her fiance and her job as a reporter. She is making bitters and hopes that she can make a go of her hobby. She is catering a historical party hoping that the people at it will love her bitters and bring her business. Instead she finds herself a suspect in a murder when someone is killed at the party. She will have to use all of her investigative skills to find the real killer before she is put away for life.
The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions helped pull me into the story from the very beginning. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The mystery was well plotted and it took some sleuthing to figure it out.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Crooked Lane Books, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.
When a mobster’s buried treasure inspires a series of violent crimes, private investigator Jim Bean will risk his life to solve his deadliest case yet.
What do Jeffrey Dahmer’s murderous glove, a brick from Lizzy Borden’s fireplace, a girl missing for over a decade, and an old mob boss have in common? That’s what PI Jim Bean must find out to solve his next case.
When Irving Silverland hires him to find some missing murderabilia objects from his museum, Jim Bean struggles to find a motive behind the strange theft. But when one of the exhibit’s employees is bludgeoned to death with the stolen brick that came from Lizzie Borden’s fireplace, the bigger picture behind the crimes begins to take shape.

As a trail of violent crimes blazes through Vegas, Jim Bean finds himself scrambling to untangle the Silverland family’s dark history. But when he gets too close to the truth, the fortune hunters will do anything to keep him quiet…even if that means putting him six feet under.

At first glance, Natalie Cavanaugh and Glenn Abbott hardly look like sisters. Even off-duty, Natalie dresses like a Boston cop, preferring practical clothes and unfussy, pinned-up hair. Her younger sister, Glenn, seems tailor-made for the spotlight, from her signature red mane to her camera-ready smile. Glenn has spent years cultivating her brand through her baking blog, and with the publication of her new book, that hard work seems about to pay off. But her fans have no idea about the nightmare in Glenn and Natalie’s past.
Twenty years ago, their father’s body was discovered in the woods behind their house. A trauma like that doesn’t fit with Glenn’s public image. Yet, maybe someone reading her blog does know something. There have been anonymous online messages, vague yet ominous, hinting that she’s being watched. And with unsettling coincidences hitting ever closer to home, both Glenn and Natalie soon have more pressing matters to worry about, especially when a dead body is found in an abandoned building . . .
Natalie is starting to wonder how much Glenn really knows about the people closest to her. But are there also secrets Natalie has yet to uncover about those she herself trusts? For two decades, she’s believed their father was murdered by their neighbor, with whom he was having an affair. But if those events are connected to what’s happening now, maybe there’s much more that Natalie doesn’t know. About their father. About their neighbors. About her friends. Maybe even about herself.

Dreams are real. At least they are for Harmony Carson. When the murders carried out during her nightmares begin to manifest themselves in the real world Houston sets everything aside to help Harmony track the killer they are certain has formed a psychic connection with Harmony during her sleep hours.
Rescue Alaska is a warm yet fast moving mystery series with a light paranormal twist. Harmony Carson, a search and rescue volunteer, has a unique gift which she often considers a curse. She is able to ‘see’ the individuals she is meant to rescue, and more often than not, she can feel their fear and their pain as well. As her gifts develop she begins to connect not only with those she is destined to rescue but those she is destined to stop as well. (Goodreads)
Review:
The characters are well rounded and well developed. Harmony has been having night visions involving a man that she has never met but that she knows is in grave danger. When she no longer has visions about him, she knows he is dead. She is having visions concerning the killer and he wants Harmony to play a cat and mouse game. When he kidnaps people that she cares about, she knows it is a matter of life and death.
The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and I could picture much of the action in my mind’s eye. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The mystery was well plotted and there was a lot of suspense and tension that you will have to deal with.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well written cozy mystery. If you like paranormal with your cozy, which I do, then try this book.

Review:
The characters are well rounded and well developed. When a local
PI is found dead, it is ruled a suicicde. When a second PI is also found dead it cannot be a coincidence. Nora knows she has to figure out what happened to them. She will have help from her sidekick, Nick, who is her sleuthing cat. Oh yeah, she will have some help from her human friends too.
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions set the stage for an intriguing read. The mystery was well plotted and rather complex. There were enough clues to sift through and you will have to have your sleuthing cap on to try to solve it.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I will have to catch up on the other books in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Beyond The Page, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.

Review:
The characters are well rounded, well developed and three dimensional. I was so happy that Cass was very involved in this book, she and Bailey make a great crime fighting duo. The situations that they find themselves are funny and dangerous. I am very glad that Juliet and Reverend Brook finally tied the knot, they were made for each other. And what can I say about Jethro, Juliet’s little pig. I love all of his antics, they made me laugh.
The writing style flowed smoothly and defined the characters very clearly by their actions and words. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning. In my mind’s eye, I could see all of the action taking place during the festival and at the candy shop.
The mystery was well plotted and there were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider. I considered the culprit for a moment and then discarded her as a suspect. Sleuthing is not an easy thing to do.
I would highly recommend this book, and series, to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I know that anytime I pick up a book written by this author, I am in for a real treat.

Review:
Ivy and Jilly have taken time off from their farm duties to go and watch Ivy’s mom dance recital with a ballroom dance instructor. Ivy’s mom and Jose, the instructor, are very elegant and graceful. But when jose is killed later, her mom is without a partner and accused of the murder. Now Ivy and the gang will have to figure out who the killer is before her mom has her last curtain call. The characters are well developed and well rounded. I really enjoy all of the characters in this book and how they interact.
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and it kept me engaged in the book from the very beginning. The mystery was well plotted and you really have to be on your game to figure out who the culprit is.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I cannot wait to read the next one.
The first book in a new paranormal mystery series featuring Sadie Novak, a professional crime scene cleaner and amateur medium.
Sadie Novak’s got the kind of job that kills cocktail chatter dead: she owns Scene-2-Clean a crime scene cleanup company. And if wiping up after murders weren’t spooky enough, she can also see and talk to the ghosts of the victims…
When grieving relatives hire Sadie and her employee, ex-cop Zack Bowman, to clean up after the murder-suicide of Trudy and Grant Toth, Sadie figures she’s bound to meet at least one chatty ghost. But Kent, the man Sadie first encounters at the scene, is very much alive–so much so, that Sadie soon finds herself agreeing to a date with him.
Then a real ghost shows up–the oddly silent spirit of Trudy, who seems determined to prove that her husband’s innocence, and inspires Sadie to track down the real killer. But as she scours the crime scene, Sadie quickly realizes she’s in way over her head, that Kent has a strange connection to the dead couple, and that someone wants her to give up the ghost…for good. Review:
I read this book when it first came out and I really enjoyed it. When I reread it, I loved it. This book has everything that I want in a book I read: humor, suspense, heartfelt moments and mystery. Add a ghost into the mix and I am hooked.
The characters are well developed and well rounded. Sadie is a strong hard-working woman who is not afraid of very much. Not even the ghosts that she sees and helps to cross over. But she has some of her own demons and ghosts from her past that she definitely has problems dealing with. This just made her seem more real to me. I enjoyed reading about the relationship between Sadie and Zack, her employee, and their bickering and banter. I also enjoyed reading about the interactions between her sister, Dawn, and her best friend, Pam.
The mystery is well plotted with enough twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. The author is very talented in using the written word to create tension and suspense.
There are places that are so suspenseful but there also moments that are endearing and sad. I liked the fact that my emotions were all over the place. In my opinion, this is the sign of a great author that can evoke such different feelings from the reader.
Paranormal ghost books are one of my favorite genres to read, and this one is top-notch. If I could I would give it more than five stars. I cannot recommend this book enough to anyone who enjoys a well crafted paranormal mystery. I already have the next book in the series to read.
