Give Up The Ghost

Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries, Book #11

5+ Stars

Some secrets should stay buried.

Ghost hunter Verity Long is no stranger to scandal. In fact, it seems to follow her around like her pet skunk, Lucy. But Verity is as shocked as anybody when a town relic discovered in a time capsule unleashes a torrent of secrets that lead to murder.

Trouble is, the only residents in Sugarland who know the truth behind the scandal also happen to be very dead themselves. With a killer on the loose and a town in crisis, Verity braves a side of Sugarland she’s never seen before. From a booby-trapped haunted mansion to a run-in with the spirit of Sugarland’s most notorious blackmailer who may hold the key to setting mob ghost Frankie free…for a price.

But when a live killer gets an inside track on Verity’s investigation, will she live long enough to give up the ghost?  (Goodreads)

This is my favorite Southern Ghost Hunter book so far.  Verity is a good person who likes to see the good in people and tries to help them. But she has a couple of people in her life that makes this concept very difficult to manage.  One is Frankie, who has decided he wants to train a race horse, among other things.  The other is Virginia Wydell, her boyfriend’s mother.  She is a suspect in a murder as well as being a pain in Verity’s side.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning.  The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The mystery was well plotted and there were enough suspects to consider and clues to sift through.

This is my favorite book in the series.  Some issues that Verity has been dealing with are addressed and I really liked that.  I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well written cozy mystery.  Whenever you read one of the Southern Ghost Hunter mysteries.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and provided my honest review.
