Review of Tuesday Night Survivors Club

The Tuesday Night Survivors’ Club

Survivors’ Book Club Mystery, Book #1

Lynn Cahoon

5 Stars

Survivors become sleuths to find a missing member of their book club in new-age Sedona, Arizona . . .

Two things got Rarity Jones through her breast cancer treatments: friends and books. Now cancer-free, Rarity is devoting her life to helping others find their way through the maze to healing. She’s opened a bookstore focusing on the power of healing—Eastern medicine, Western medicine, the healing power of food, the power of meditation, and the importance of developing a support community. To that end, she’s also started the Tuesday Night Survivors book club. With its openness to new-age communities, Sedona, Arizona, is the perfect fit for Rarity’s bookstore and the tightly knit group.

But their therapeutic unity is disrupted when one of their members suddenly goes missing. Martha has always kept to herself, never opening up much of her personal life to the group. Now she’s nowhere to be found. With her car abandoned on a trail and her dog left with a friend, Rarity is sure something terrible has happened—but will she be able to uncover Martha’s secrets before it’s too late?

The characters are well developed and well rounded.  Rarity is a cancer survivor and she decides to open a bookstore.  Besides regular books she has books focusing on the power of healing.  She has also started a book club so people can share their experiences as well as the book they read.  When one of the members goes missing, Rarity and her best friend, Sam,  have to figure out what is going on.  She will also have help from the ladies in the book club.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning.  The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read.  The mystery was well plotted and it kept me guessing throughout the entire book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery.  The book was a great beginning to the series and I cannot wait to find out what happens next in the series.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Kensington Books, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.

Valued for Murder: A British Cozy Murder Mystery
(A Dotty Sayers Antique Mystery) by Victoria Tait

Valued for Murder is a wonderful second installment of this series. I especially enjoy the antique theme with all the behind the scene moments of the auctions and all the work they entail. I am excited about the next book, Bidding for Revenge, set to be released on August 19, 2022.
~Escape With Dollycas Into A Good Book

This was such a great mystery and I love stories that involve discovering antiques. Valued for Murder was a delightful, fun mystery that will definitely keep you guessing.

If you’re like I am and love British cozies, you have to add Valued for Murder to your TBR piles!

An antiques show. A dead diva. For an amateur sleuth the truth is not always crystal clear.

Dotty Sayers is enjoying her job in a Cotswold auction house. When she’s offered a place on an antiques TV show, she nervously agrees to a makeover and is surprised by the admiring glances she receives. Working on set at a historic country hotel, she realises all that glitters is not gold when at the bottom of the circular staircase, one of the experts is found dead.

Was the death accidental or something shadier? Dotty promises to leave the investigation to the police, but as this amateur sleuth appraises the dead woman’s estate, she can’t help unveiling clues. But when she returns from viewing a priceless sculpture, and finds her British blue cat missing, she knows that life does not imitate art.

Can Dotty tell a fake from the real deal and identify the killer?

I was born and raised in Yorkshire, UK, and never expected to travel the world.  But I fell for an Army Officer, and I’ve followed him from Northern Ireland, up to the Scottish Highlands, across to Africa and the Kenyan Savannah, back to the British Cotswolds, and we are now living in Sarajevo, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in Southern Europe.

I never expected to be an author, but all this moving is not ideal for holding down a job.  Instead, I’ve taken the experiences of the places I’ve lived to write vivid and evocative cozy mystery books with determined female sleuths.

I have two fast-growing teenage boys, and together we’ve learnt to ski on the Bosnian mountains.  I also enjoy horse riding, mountain biking and I’ve started running as a way to improve my physical fitness, mental wellbeing and shed some excess pounds.

Review of Dairy, Dairy, Quite Contrary

Looking for a fresh start, advice columnist Sissy Yoder heads to small-town Yoder, Kansas, to help in her aunt’s café. But when a milkman is murdered, the newcomer becomes the prime suspect . . .

After Sissy’s rodeo cowboy boyfriend turns out to be more of a rodeo clown, she packs a bag; picks up her Yorkshire terrier Duke; and leaves Tulsa, Oklahoma, bound for her parents’ former hometown. There are still plenty of Yoders in Yoder, Kansas, including Sissy’s aunt Bethel, who owns the Sunflower Café but recently broke her leg. It’s a homecoming of sorts as Sissy arrives to help in the café and reunite with her pregnant cousin Lizzie. Plus she can continue to secretly write her newspaper advice column as seventy-year-old “Aunt Bess.” But it’s Sissy who could use some advice when she finds the milk deliveryman out behind the café with a knife in his back. As the sheriff’s prime suspect, it’s up to Sissy to catch the backstabber herself—before someone else gets creamed . . .(Amazon)

The characters are well rounded and well developed.  Sissy has returned to her parents home town to help her aunt Bethel who has broken her leg.  Shortly after she arrives, the milk delivery man is killed with a knife in his back.  Since Sissy is new and she is the une to find the body, she is the prime suspect.  Sissy must find out who the murderer is before she is thrown in to jail.

The author is talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning and did not let me go.  The mystery was well plotted and there were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider.  You could tell that Sissy is not used to trying to solve a murder but she is gping to give it her all.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery.  I am looking forward to seeing what type of trouble Sissy gets into next.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Kensington Books, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.

And when well-known townsman, Ross Garland is found shot dead close to where she saw the “alien,” Bobbi Sue knows she can’t stay quiet.

The only problem is, the person behind the murder is intent on her doing exactly that, no matter what it takes.

The bullets changed everything for me. Sometimes I wished I’d taken a bullet too because I lost the most important men in my life. My dad still fought every day to reclaim his confidence, mobility, and wit from the bullet that creased his brain. But my husband of seventeen days took our dreams with him when he died. They never caught the shooter.

After losing everything, Katie Wilk is starting life over in Columbia, Minnesota, with a new career—giving up cryptanalysis in favor of teaching school—and a canine companion, Maverick, a black Labrador retriever. But on one of their first outings, Katie and Maverick discover a dead body in a nearby marshland. Doctor Pete Erickson enters her life. As the county coroner, he’s one of the first on the scene; as the doctor that day in the ER, he’s the one who stitches up Katie’s head; as the son of the police chief, Pete is also in on the investigation.

Meanwhile, the locals are gearing up for the premiere of a new docudrama film called Titanic: One Story, which would be the cornerstone piece of a new Titanic exhibit, to open Labor Day weekend at the Midwest Minnesota History Center. The director selected their town as the location for some of the scenes, and many local residents are featured as extras in the movie. There will be a huge gala dinner and celebration for the grand opening. Tragedy strikes when the director dies suddenly, and there are a number of suspects.

Katie finds herself in the midst of it all and doesn’t know anyone in town well enough to know who she can trust.

Praise for the Katie and Maverick Cozy Mysteries:
“Immediately captivating! Katie and Maverick are destined to become a notable amateur sleuth team in the mystery world.” –Connie Shelton, USA Today bestselling author (Amazon)

The road to murder…
Is paved with good intentions
It usually isn’t good news when a sleepy little place like Dunforth, New Hampshire gets international attention.
When a long-haul trucker wins millions from a scratch-off ticket, it’s no surprise that he’s slated as the first guest on a new morning talk show called The Espresso @ Eight, hosted by disgraced-journalist Riley Robertson.
Projections for viewership were modest – until the millionaire took a few sips of his coffee and dropped dead on live television.
Whispers of the tragedy flow into the Roastery on 33rd not long after, and barista Paige Palmer can’t help but listen. Things take a decidedly dangerous turn when it comes to light that the bag of coffee beans was sold to the station by Margaret Hayward, Paige’s boss.
Margaret insists on her innocence in the matter, believing it to be one mystery better left in the hands of the police. Paige isn’t convinced, and neither is British transplant Rohan Chowdhury.
As The Roastery on 33rd begins training new staff, the million-dollar question hangs in the air like the aroma of a freshly-prepared espresso.

Review of Strawberried Alive

Strawberries Alive

Cupcake Bakery Mystery, Book #14

Jenn McKinlay

5 Stars

The crew from the Fairy Tale Cupcakes shop risks getting burned when they set out to find a murderer who is terrorizing their town

Life is smooth as buttercream at the Fairy Tale Cupcakes bakery, and newlyweds Mel and Joe are stopping to smell the flours. But things start to crumble one night when an unknown gunman takes a shot at Mel. Though the bullets miss their mark, the cupcake crew goes on high alert to figure out who would want to kill a small-town baker, and why.

When more business owners are attacked, things turn fatal, and locals begin to wonder if the killer could be one of their own. Every shop owner in town starts to fear it’s only a matter of time before they too become victims of the mystery murderer. Despite the cupcake crew’s superb baking skills, it will be anything but a piece of cake to catch the killer, as they try to prevent anyone else from being berried.

The characters are well rounded and well developed.  Mel and Angie are still the best of friends, and along with their significant others, they are all besties.  Mel is shot at when she is leaving the bakery and she does not know why.  When more business owners are also targets, Mel and the gang will have to figure out who is behind the shootings and why.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning.  The writing style flows smoothly and it defines the characters very clearly by their actions and words.  The mystery is well plotted and there are enough clues to soft through and suspects to consider.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery.  This series just keeps getting better and it is one of my favorites.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Berkley Publishing Group, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.
