Review:
Winnie is a hard worker who loves her business, the Emergency Dessert Squad. She cannot imagine doing anything else with her life. But when a college student dies after eating one of her desserts, she may lose not only her business but her freedom as well. She is a suspect in the murder, and she knows she has to uncover the real killer before she lose it all.
The characters are well rounded, well developed and three dimensional. I loved getting to spend time with Winnie and her best friend, Renee. I also really like the fact that Winnie enjoys spending time with elderly people. By far my favorite character is Mr. Nelson, Winnie’s elderly neighbor. He is feisty, caring, funny, quirky and he loves Winnie like a daughter.
The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and through the entire book I felt like I was right there, being a part of the action. I felt like I could smell and taste the delicious desserts and listen in on all of the conversations. The writing style flows smoothly and the book was an easy read. I really enjoyed all of the clever names of the desserts that they were serving, it made me smile.
The murder was carried on well throughout the book and there were enough suspects to consider, and enough clues and red herrings thrown in, that it was impossible for me to figure out the killer until it was revealed at the end.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted, cleverly written cozy. If you enjoy great characters, a great setting and a great mystery to solve, then this book is for you. I would suggest reading the first book in the series, to, because they are both excellent.
