Kenni Lowry likes to think the zero crime rate in Cottonwood, Kentucky is due to her being sheriff, but she quickly discovers the ghost of her grandfather, the town’s previous sheriff, has been scaring off any would-be criminals since she was elected. When the town’s most beloved doctor is found murdered on the very same day as a jewelry store robbery, and a mysterious symbol ties the crime scenes together, Kenni must satisfy her hankerin’ for justice by nabbing the culprits.

Review:

This is such a good book and I really enjoyed it.  Cozy ghost paranormals are some of my favorites books to read, and this one is as good as any that I have read.  It has all of the elements that I look for in this type of book:  great characters, small town setting, a lovable ghost and a mystery to solve.  What more could a reader ask for?

The characters are well developed and well rounded.  Kenni is a hard working tough women who is trying to prove to her small town that she is “man enough” to be the sheriff.  She is following in her grandfather’s footsteps, a man she loved deeply and misses terribly.  When there is a murder and a robbery committed on the same, she has her hands full, but is determined to solve both cases.  She gets help from Finn Vincent, an officer on loan from the State Reserve because Kenni is down one deputy due to retirement.  The fact that he is handsome angers her because she finds herself attracted to him.  But she refuses to let that fact distract her from solving the mysteries.  Poppa, Kenni’s grandfather, was my favorite character and I can see why she misses him so much. 

The author is very talented in creating the small town setting.  Cottonwood, Kentucky, is full of busy bodies and quirky characters.  Gossip runs wild and everybody wants to offer advice and know each other’s business.  I think it would be a fun place to visit.

There are two mysteries to solve and they were carried on well throughout the book  There are enough suspects, clues and twists and turns to keep the reader guessing.  I was not positive who the culprit was until is was revealed, which is how I like it.

I would recommend this book to any reader who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery.  If you enjoy ghostly paranormal cozies, this is a must read book.  I am hoping that this book is the start of a new series because I want to spend more time with Kenni and Poppa.
